Tree rings can be used to determine the age of a tree by simply counting the number of rings seen when a trunk is cut open.
A yearly layer of growth is added to these trees, and these growth layers can be counted to determing the age of the tree.
Tree rings follow the fractal pattern of repeating patterns represented in smaller scales toward infinity.
