Parable of the Unprepared Builder: Luke 14:28-30 KJV

Bible

In the Parable of the Unprepared Builder, included in Luke 14:28-30, Jesus describes the cost of being His disciple and specifically explains that one must be willing to give up everything they have to follow him.

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:27. KJV.

Jesus then describes building a tower without properly preparing for cost of the construction and the embarrassment of not being able to finish the tower because the money ran out. This example is designed to explain the cost of being Jesus' disciple. Many want to be a follower of Jesus but they are not aware of the cost involved and the obligation necessary to be a follower. A follower of Jesus must be willing to give up everything they have to follow him. Too many people want to be a follower of Jesus but they have not given up the things in their life that are separating themselves from having a true relationship with him. Many distractions of this world prevent us from truly following Jesus and his word. The reason you cannot have the true relationship with Jesus that you want or you feel that your relationship with Jesus is not what it should be is because you have not fully committed to him and given up the things in your life that are separating you from a relationship with him. A person must be willing to change their lifestyle and commit to a new lifestyle as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Therefore, you wonder why you cannot finish the tower that you want to build. You have not fully committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and you have not accounted for all of the costs needed to be a follower.

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build and was not able to finish. Luke 14:28-30.
