Bible

The Parable of the Good Shepherd is described in John 10:1-18, where Jesus Christ describes himself as the Good Shepherd. Just as a shepherd enters the gate and the sheep follow and listen to him, Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd for all humanity.

Jesus then explains, ...I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. John 10:7-8.

Jesus also explained:

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved... John 10:9.
...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10.

Jesus explains that all must believe in Him to be saved and that there is no other method that mankind can be saved and receive salvation. Jesus explains that he is the only path and gateway to salvation and heaven.

In a prophetic statement in the parable, Jesus predicts his future crucifiction:

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:11.

Jesus also makes another prophetic statement in the parable where he indicates that there are others from outside Israel and the ancestral Jewish homeland that will follow him and that those will be combined with the Jewish followers to produce "one flock," referring to the Church Body that will come from all over the world.

I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. John 10:16.
