Levitical Law Given to Israelites by God Through Moses
The Book of Leviticus describes where God gives the Levitical law to the Israelites, including for sacrifices, tithes, and purity. The book is believed to have been written by Moses, along with the first five books of the Old Testament. Specifically, the laws and instructions were given for ritual sacrifices, how tithes were to be taken from agricultural goods, laws for the behavior of priests and Israelites in general. After the Ten Commandments were given as described in the Book of Exodus, the Levitical laws were given in addition to govern the religious practices and ceremonies of the Israelite people according to God's standard that He expected for His chosen people. The Levitical law gave the priests and the Israelites instructions about how to make offerings in the Tabernacle and how to properly behave. The Israelite tribe of Levi was given instruction to be His priests and religious leaders and therefore the name of the book is derived. The introduction of the Levitical law to the Israelites was the first time that extensive laws and regulations were given by God to His chosen people.

Importance of the Book of Leviticus and the Levitical Law
God expected His newly chosen people to behave a certain way during religious and ceremonial events along with daily life and to distinguish themselves from the adjacent nations in the region. The laws relating to animal sacrifice point toward a future sacrifice, one that occurred on the Cross of Calvary, where God sent the Son and Messiah Jesus Christ to be the final sacrifice for the sins of humanity.
It has been mentioned that the Book of Leviticus is one of the least quoted books of the Bible by Christians. The Levitical law is part of the Old Testament and God has since established a New Covenant with his people through Jesus Christ. The Levitical law was the first time that such an extensive list of rules and regulations were given to the Israelites, God's chosen people. The laws and instructions given in the Book of Leviticus give insight about how God thinks and what he expects out of His chosen people.
While God is loving and willing to forgive, He expects obedience from His people. The Book of Leviticus reflects how God expects a certain code of conduct from His people. As the Creator of All, God demands respect and therefore expects His people to follow a certain code of conduct.
