Science

Rocks and minerals commonly contain fractures, many of which follow a similar pattern. These patterns are repeated throughout the Earth.

Rock fracture patterns are based on the atomic structure of the rock and particular minerals within the rock. Rocks with the same content will fracture the same way, forming a repeating pattern that can be seen at multiple magnifications.
