Who are the Four Archangels?
Archangels are angelic beings or specific rank of angels created by God and chief messengers of God, and called by God to deliver messages to man or to perform specific tasks.
There are also other types of angels and angelic beings that perform similar duties. Some of them are named in the scriptures and some are not named.
Four Archangels are mentioned in the Bible and Abrahamic religions.
Gabriel notified the Virgin Mary about Jesus Christ's birth and John the Baptist's birth. Luke 1:27-38, Matthew 1:21. Gabriel was also sent to Daniel to explain his vision of the ram and the he-goat and to communicate the prediction of the Seventy Weeks. Daniel 8-9. Gabriel is also mentioned in the Book of Enoch.
Michael is defender of the good versus evil, dispenser of justice, healer of the sick, guardian of the Church, and great warrior. His name means "who is like God" in Hebrew. Michael is mentioned in the Bible in Daniel 10:13, 21, 12:1, Jude 1:9, and Revelation 12:7.
Raphael is the healer and protector of travelers. His name means "God heals" in Hebrew. He is in charge of healing and removing pain and suffering. Raphael is mentioned in the Apocrypha books of Tobit and Enoch 1.
Uriel is the angel of prophecy, truth, and wisdom, and one of the four eldest and most powerful archangels. His name means "Fire of God", or light of God. Guardian of the gates of Heaven, guardian of Eden, and God's truth.
In Judaism, these archangels are also called śārīm, which is Hebrew for "princes", to show their high status and rank. Each archangel has a specific mission, and their names often end in "el", a Hebrew ending that refers to "God".
Some scriptures, such as the Apocrypha, list seven archangels, particularly in the Book of Enoch.
However, there are many types of angels of various rank discussed in the Bible scriptures.
