The Book of Ezekiel describes the prophetic account of Ezekiel, a Judean priest living in exile in the city of Babylon between 593 and 571 B.C. during Babylonian occupation of the Jewish homeland. Ezekiel received a series of divine visions about the future of the Israel nation and the surrounding nations.
The First Vision of the Battle Chariot: God Anoints Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1-3)
In the first vision that Ezekiel received, God appears to Ezekiel in a battle chariot. This chariot is drawn by four living creatures, each having four faces: those of a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. Each also had four wings. Each creature had a wheel on the ground. Above the chariot was a throne and a figure of a man with a brilliant light surrounding him.
This was the appearance of the likeness of the Glory of the Lord. Ezekiel 1:28.
