Deucalion and Pyrrha: A Greek Flood Story Similar to the Biblical Flood

The ancient Greek story of Deucalion and Pyrrha is another example of an ancient story involving a global flood and has many similarities to the Genesis Flood story. In the story, a major flood was sent by Zeus and the gods with much rain because the people had become wicked and corrupt. The flood destroyed the current human race and created a new generation of people as a few humans survived the flood in a boat. Deucalion and Pyrrha were the two humans deemed righteous in the world and were spared from the flood by the Greek gods. Deucalion was warned by his father of a coming great flood that would destroy humanity on earth. Afterward Deucalion told Pyrrha of the pending doom and the two of them built a boat and prepared for the flood. Rainstorms came and lifted the boat and eventually no mountain or tree could be seen. The flood lasted for days until the water began receding and the boat landed on dry land, atop Mount Parnassos. Deucalion and Pyrrha were deeply heartbroken by the destruction from the flood. After a messenger from the gods instructed them to throw stones behind them without looking, the stones turned into men and women and these helped repopulate the earth.
