John the Apostle (Not John the Baptist) was one of 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ and was the son of Zebedee and Salome. His brother was James, another of the 12 Apostles. John the Apostle is also known as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos, John the Elder and the Beloved Disciple. John outlived the other apostles and was the only apostle to die of natural causes, as the others were believed to be executed for their faith. In addition to the Book of John, the three short epistles are believed to have been written by this same John in addition to the Book of Revelation, all works classified under Johannine Literature.
