Birth, Death, and Divine Intervention

Certainly there had to be some divine intervention in the creation of the universe and the earth, including life on Earth. Simply the birth of a human child is considered a miracle by many and is more than a biological process. Also, when a human dies, where does that human spirit or soul go? The ascension of Elijah, Enoch, and Jesus Christ are things that require the supernatural and divine intervention. In addition, the creation of Adam, the survival of Jonah from the whale, the parting of the Red Sea by Moses, and the many miracles of Jesus cannot be described with naturalistic explanations. So why do creationists continue to require a naturalistic explanation for everything? One must believe that God is in complete control of the universe and can intervene at any time. He controls the universe at His fingertips. God created the laws of nature but He can intervene at any time. Man uses science to describe nature but cannot describe the supernatural.
Many people of faith accept the concepts of the old earth model and macroevolution. Many of these have not fully considered the evidence of the creationist model and choose to believe the naturalistic worldview out of convenience. Many believe that the events described in the Book of Genesis concerning the Flood are too unrealistic and unbelievable to be considered as part of history. However, these same people of faith must ask themselves about the other miraculous events in the scriptures. If these people reject the stories of the biblical flood, do they also reject the miracles of Jesus, the virgin birth and resurrection, the work of Moses, Jonah, and other key prophets and religious figures? Some “progressive” religious theologians assume that many of the miraculous stories and events in the scriptures are symbolic and not meant to be taken literally. It is clear that many of the events described in the scriptures go beyond naturalistic explanations and require supernatural explanations. Therefore, the final analysis should be that some of the events of the scriptures required supernatural means and must be accepted by faith while not every event described in the scriptures has a naturalistic explanation. Ultimately, the question one must ask is, “Do I believe the scriptures or not?”
