Atheism and Creation: Can an Atheist be a Creationist and Is Evolution a Religion?

Can an atheist be a creationist? This is an interesting question involving the creation-evolution debate. Despite the fact that many creationists are religious advocates, could the idea of a young earth and universe be secularized? With the strong scientific evidence given by creationists in the last 50 years in favor of the young earth and universe, many have been convinced of the creation model. The origin of the fossil record, the erosional landscapes on earth and evidence of the youth of the stars and heavens have convinced many of the creation model. However, does accepting the creation model require accepting religion or God?
The idea of creation and the creation model implies that there was a creation event at some time in the past by an intelligent and capable force who designed everything we see on Earth and in the Universe. This belief is in stark contrast to the mainstream evolutionist doctrine, which advocates that the Earth and the universe originated and formed accidentally by chance over billions of years. In other words, evolutionists believe that God is optional and those who chose God can opt to believe that God directed the evolutionary processes over long periods of time. However, for those who have accepted the young-earth creation model based on the scientific evidence, the only explanation for the origin of everything is a unique and special creation performed by an intelligent and capable power.
Therefore, becoming a creationist gives little room for atheism and gives strong evidence for God. In addition, the vast majority of atheists accept evolution and the origin of everything by random chance. With the evidence for creation given in the last 50 years, belief in evolution requires much faith. In fact, many believe that belief in evolution is a religion. Most evolutionists deny that evolution is a religion and claim that evolution is part of modern science while explaining that science is unrelated to religion. However, if evolution is concerned with origins and the origin of everything, how is evolution different from most religions of the world, including the monotheistic Abrahamic religions, traditional East Asian religions, and Native American religions, all of which are concerned with the origin of everything. Every religion in the world has an origins story, or an explanation of the origin of everything and how everything originated including the Earth and the universe. Therefore, evolution and evolutionist doctrine should be added to the list of the many religions of the world as its own religion, despite the evolutionist denial of evolution being an official religious group.
